Here’s an easy and delicious Sesame Chicken recipe you can make at home:

Ingredients (serves 2–3)

For the chicken:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1–2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)

For the sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1–2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry for thickening)

For garnish:

  • 1–2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted
  • Chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Chicken:
Toss the chicken pieces with 2 tbsp cornstarch until lightly coated.
  2. Cook Chicken:
Heat oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through (about 5–7 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make Sauce:
In the same pan, add garlic and ginger and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, hoisin (if using), and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Thicken Sauce:
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Combine:
Return the chicken to the pan and toss until evenly coated with the sauce.
  6. Garnish and Serve:
Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.

I can also give you a baked version of sesame chicken that’s lighter but still crispy and saucy, no frying needed. Do you want that version?
