Here’s a simple, perfect way to make fried halloumi cheese—crispy, golden outside and soft, salty inside. It takes just a few minutes and works as an appetizer, salad topping, or mezze platter star.

🧀 Fried Halloumi Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 block halloumi cheese (7–8 oz)
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil or a small pat of butter
  • Optional: lemon wedges, honey, chili flakes, fresh herbs, black pepper

Instructions

1. Prep the halloumi

  • Remove from the package and pat dry.
  • Slice into ½-inch thick slices (thinner slices get too tough or rubbery).

2. Heat the pan

  • Heat a nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium to medium-high heat.
  • Add a thin layer of olive oil (or butter for richer flavor).

3. Fry

  • Lay halloumi slices in the pan in a single layer.
  • Cook 2–3 minutes per side until deeply golden and crisp.

4. Serve immediately

Halloumi is best eaten hot—it firms up as it cools.

Serving Ideas

  • With honey + chili flakes (classic sweet + salty combo)
  • With lemon juice and cracked black pepper
  • On salads (especially with watermelon, tomato, or greens)
  • On toast or pita with herbs
  • As part of a mezze board with olives, cucumbers, tzatziki, and tomatoes

Variations

Crispy Coated Halloumi

Toss slices in cornstarch or flour + paprika before frying for extra crisp.

Pan-Fried Halloumi Bites

Cut into cubes and fry in a little oil until all sides are golden—great for appetizers.

Halloumi with Tomatoes & Herbs
