A timeless classic! 🥧✨

Here’s a perfect homemade Apple Pie recipe — flaky, buttery crust with a warm, spiced apple filling that smells (and tastes!) like comfort.

🍎 Classic Apple Pie

🧂 Ingredients

For the crust (makes a double crust):

  • 2½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the filling:

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50 g) brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (thickener)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces (for dotting on top of the filling)

For brushing:

  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp milk or cream (for egg wash)
  • A sprinkle of coarse sugar (optional, for sparkle and crunch)

🥣 Instructions

1. Make the crust

  1. In a large bowl, whisk flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until pea-sized crumbs form.
  3. Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time, mixing just until dough holds together.
  4. Divide dough into 2 disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.

2. Prepare the filling

  1. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, both sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla.
  2. Toss until apples are evenly coated. Let sit for 15–20 minutes to bring out juices.

3. Assemble the pie

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out one dough disk to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place it in the pan and trim edges.
  3. Fill with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  4. Roll out the second crust and place it on top. Trim, seal, and flute edges (or make a lattice top).
  5. Brush the top with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.

4. Bake

  1. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes.
  2. Reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake another 35–45 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  3. If the edges brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

5. Cool and serve

Let pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing so the filling can set.

Serve warm or at room temperature with:

  • A scoop of vanilla ice cream, or
  • A dollop of fresh whipped cream 🧡

Would you like me to give you a rustic apple galette version (same flavor, no pie dish or lattice needed)?
