Here’s a delicious, flaky Mushroom and Cheese Puff Pastry recipe — perfect as an appetizer, snack, or light meal!


🍄 Mushroom & Cheese Puff Pastry

Ingredients (makes 6–8 pastries)

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced (button, cremini, or mix)
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 small onion or 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp thyme (fresh or dried)
  • Salt & black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (Gruyère, mozzarella, cheddar, or Swiss)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: 1–2 tbsp cream or cream cheese for a creamier filling

Instructions

1. Make the mushroom filling

  1. Heat butter/oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion/shallots and cook until soft (2–3 min).
  3. Add mushrooms and cook until they release moisture and brown (5–7 min).
  4. Stir in garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Optional: Mix in a spoon of cream or cream cheese for richness.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. Stir in shredded cheese.

2. Prepare the pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out puff pastry lightly and cut into 6–8 squares/rectangles.
  3. Spoon some mushroom-cheese filling onto the center of each piece.

3. Shape

Choose one of these:

  • Turnover style: Fold into a triangle, crimp edges with a fork.
  • Parcel/pocket: Bring all corners to the center and pinch closed.
  • Open tart: Leave edges exposed, folding sides slightly inward.

4. Bake

  1. Brush tops with egg wash (1 beaten egg).
  2. Bake 15–20 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
