Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler

Posted on January 2, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Old-Time Oven Peach Cobbler—the kind with a buttery crust and juicy peaches, just like grandma used to make 🍑

Ingredients (serves 6–8)

Peaches

  • 4–5 cups sliced peaches (fresh or canned, drained)
  • ½–¾ cup sugar (depending on sweetness of peaches)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk

Butter

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the butter
Place butter in a 9×13 baking dish (or similar).
Put dish in the oven until butter is melted. Remove and set aside.
  3. Prepare peaches
In a bowl, mix peaches with sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Make the batter
In another bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth.
  5. Assemble (don’t stir!)
Pour batter evenly over melted butter.
Spoon peaches and juice over the batter—do not mix.
  6. Bake
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Cool & serve
    Let cool slightly before serving.

How to serve (the best part 😄)

  • Warm with vanilla ice cream
  • Or a dollop of whipped cream

Old-School Tips & Variations

  • Extra crispy top: Sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking
  • Southern style: Use canned peaches in heavy syrup (reduce added sugar)
  • Spiced up: Add a pinch of ginger
  • Smaller batch: Cut recipe in half and bake in an 8×8 dish

If you want, I can share a dump-and-bake version, a biscuity cobbler, or a cast-iron skillet style.
