Instructions
- Make the patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef, milk, crackers, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Form into oval or round patties (like thick steaks). - Brown the hamburger steaks
Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the onions
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and golden (5–7 minutes). - Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions, stir, and cook 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in beef broth. Simmer until thickened. Season to taste. - Finish together
Return hamburger steaks to the skillet.
Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low for 10–15 minutes until tender.
